NetEnt is the studio behind Starburst, Gonzo’s Quest and Mega Fortune, three of the best-known online slots ever made. Founded in 1996, it has been part of the Evolution group since late 2020 and now works as one of Evolution’s slot brands, alongside Red Tiger, Big Time Gaming and Nolimit City.
This review covers the studio today, its history and catalogue, the best NetEnt slots with official figures, the 2026 releases, branded games, how NetEnt RTP settings work, jackpots, free spins, demos, mobile play, licences and how to pick NetEnt casinos. Game figures come from the studio’s own game pages on netent.com (called “the studio hub” below) and from Evolution’s games site, checked on 17 October 2026.
Short answer: NetEnt slots suit players who want classic, well-documented games. The studio hub lists the RTP and max win, and usually the hit frequency, for each game it covers; Blood Suckers (98.00%) and Mega Joker (up to 99.00%) are among the highest official RTPs; and the games are supplied under Evolution’s UK and Malta licences. The catch: 23 of the 203 slots on Evolution’s site show more than one RTP, so check the figure inside the game at your casino.

What Is NetEnt Today? A Slot Brand Inside Evolution
The studio no longer runs as a separate company. Evolution, the Stockholm-listed games supplier best known for live casino, bought it in 2020 and now lists it as one of eight brands: Evolution, NetEnt, Red Tiger, Ezugi, Big Time Gaming, Nolimit City, Sneaky Slots and DigiWheel. Evolution presents it as a slots brand that also offers a selection of classic RNG table games.
There’s no standalone corporate site any more. Evolution’s brand page for the studio is the official company reference. Evolution’s games site has a page for each slot, and netent.com is now a game hub run by Evolution Gaming Malta Limited, with release dates, RTPs and upcoming titles.
NetEnt casino software reaches operators through Evolution’s One Stop Shop platform, which has delivered the studio’s games, along with Red Tiger’s, since 2021. Inside the group, it sits in the RNG (slots) division, while live dealer games come from the Evolution and Ezugi brands. Since late 2025 Evolution has been reorganising that division so its slot brands run with more autonomy, a change it expects to finish during 2026.
According to Evolution’s 2025 annual report, the brand also completed an update in 2025 to bring its catalogue in line with current design standards. For live roulette, blackjack and game shows from the same group, see our Evolution Gaming review.
NetEnt History: From 1996 to Evolution
The company began in Sweden in 1996 as Net Entertainment. In its early years it was part of the Swedish Cherry group, which later became Betsson: published company histories say Cherry took a minority stake in 1998 and bought the remaining shares from co-founder Investment AB Kinnevik in 2000. According to the same histories, the company listed on the Stockholm stock exchange in April 2007 and shortened its name to NetEnt in May 2015.
In September 2019 it made its first acquisition, buying Red Tiger for an initial enterprise value of about £197m plus an earn-out that could lift the total to about £223m, as trade press reported at the time.
In June 2020 Evolution announced an all-share offer for the company worth about SEK 19.6bn. After competition clearances in Malta and the UK, the deal completed around 1 December 2020 with Evolution holding about 96.8% of the shares, according to trade press. The company left Nasdaq Stockholm that month, and Evolution’s compulsory buy-out of the last shares was finalised in 2023, according to its annual report.
The restructuring that followed was not painless. Trade press reported about 300 redundancies straight after closing, including the closure of the Krakow office in Poland and the studio in Qormi, Malta.

NetEnt slot machines are also reaching land-based floors: in September 2025 Evolution signed a deal with Gaming Arts to adapt Divine Fortune and Starburst titles for casino cabinets in North America.
How Many NetEnt Games Are There?
Evolution doesn’t publish an official total. Our own count on 17 October 2026 found 203 slot pages credited to the studio on Evolution’s games site, so about 200 slots are listed there. Treat that as a count of the games site’s listings, not an official figure. The classic RNG table games aren’t part of it, and other sites quote anything from 200 to over 400 games depending on what they count.
Slots by NetEnt fall into a few clear groups:
- Classic video slots: Starburst, Twin Spin, Fruit Shop, Blood Suckers and Jack and the Beanstalk.
- Progressive jackpot slots: Mega Fortune, Mega Fortune Dreams, Hall of Gods, Arabian Nights, Mega Joker and the Divine Fortune family.
- Megaways versions: Divine Fortune Megaways, Twin Spin Megaways and Fruit Shop Megaways, built on Big Time Gaming’s Megaways mechanic.
- XXXtreme remakes: high-volatility versions of classics, such as Starburst XXXtreme, Twin Spin XXXtreme and Reel Rush XXXtreme.
- Branded slots: games based on films, TV shows, bands and board games, such as Jumanji, Vikings and MONOPOLY Money Line.
- New-style slots: recent NetEnt slot games such as Aftermath and Demon Beats, most with a feature buy-in.
| Release year | Slots listed |
|---|---|
| 2019 | 25 |
| 2020 | 22 |
| 2021 | 9 |
| 2022 | 7 |
| 2023 | 18 |
| 2024 | 8 |
| 2025 | 9 |
| 2026 (to 17 October) | 14, one of them due on 29 October |
Output fell in the first two years after the takeover. Evolution called 2023 a year of transition, as operators moved their integrations to its platform, and says it increased the studio’s output that year. With 14 listed so far, 2026 is already ahead of 2024 and 2025, and it’s the busiest year since 2023. One caution: Evolution sometimes labels an older game with a later year than the studio hub does, so treat single years with care.
Best NetEnt Slots: 12 Classics Compared
These are the best NetEnt online slots by reputation and by how often players search for them, not a ranking by payout. Release dates, RTP, hit frequency and bet range come from each game’s page on the studio hub. Volatility comes from Evolution’s games site, because the studio hub shows it only as an icon.
Max win is the figure stated in the official game description where there is one, otherwise the studio hub’s listed maximum. Where the two official sites disagree, the other figure is in the “Where the sources differ” table in the RTP section.
How to Read the Slot Tables
- RTP: the share of all stakes a slot is designed to pay back over millions of spins. It is not a promise for one session.
- Volatility: how swingy the wins are. Low means smaller, more frequent wins; high means longer dry spells and rarer, bigger wins. Evolution labels each game Low, Mid or High, or a mix.
- Hit frequency: the share of spins that return any win, as listed by the studio hub. A high figure doesn’t mean a high RTP, because many of those wins are smaller than the stake.
- Max win: the largest payout the game allows, as a multiple of your stake. It is a rare ceiling, not a likely result.
- Bet range: the minimum and maximum stake per spin shown on the studio hub, in euros when we checked. Your casino’s limits may differ.
| Slot | Released | RTP | Volatility | Hit frequency | Max win | Bet range |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starburst | 2012 | 96.08% | Low/Mid | 23% | 800x | 0.10–100 |
| Gonzo's Quest | 2010 | 95.97% | Mid | 41% | 2,500x | 0.20–50 |
| Mega Fortune | 2009 | 96.60% | Low | 53% | 2,162x base game, plus jackpots | 0.25–50 |
| Dead or Alive | 2009 | 96.82% | High | 30% | 8,600x | 0.09–18 |
| Dead or Alive 2 | 2019 | 96.80% | High | 30% | 100,000x | 0.09–9 |
| Blood Suckers | 2009 | 98.00% | Low | 45% | 900x | 0.25–50 |
| Twin Spin | 2013 | 96.55% | Mid | 28% | 1,000x | 0.25–125 |
| Fruit Shop | 2011 | 96.71% | Low/Mid | 27% | 800x | 0.15–150 |
| Jack and the Beanstalk | 2011 | 96.28% | Mid/High | 34% | 7,100x | 0.20–100 |
| Mega Joker | 2008 | 99.00% | High | 17% | 200x, plus jackpot | 1.00–10 |
| Divine Fortune | 2017 | 96.59% | Mid | 20% | 1,000x, plus jackpots | 0.20–100 |
| Divine Fortune Megaways | 2020 | 96.09% | Mid | 41% | 4,500x | 0.10–100 |
Starburst NetEnt Slot: The Studio's Best-Known Game
Starburst (January 2012) is a 5×3 game with 10 fixed paylines that pay both ways. Its Starburst wild expands to fill the reel and triggers a respin, which gives frequent small wins at low-to-mid volatility. The official RTP is 96.08%, with a top win of 800x and a minimum bet of 0.10. Follow-ups include Starburst XXXtreme (2021, high volatility, up to 16,800x on the studio hub) and Starburst Galaxy (2024), with Avalanche on a grid that expands up to 7×7.
Gonzo's Quest and the Avalanche Mechanic
Gonzo’s Quest made the Avalanche mechanic famous: winning symbols are removed and new ones fall into place, and each Avalanche in a row raises a multiplier up to 5x in the base game. Three Free Fall scatters give 10 free spins with multipliers up to 15x. RTP is 95.97% on both official sites, slightly below the 96% many players use as a rule of thumb, and Evolution’s description puts the max win at 2,500x the bet.
Don’t confuse it with Gonzo’s Quest Megaways (2020), which Evolution credits to Red Tiger, or with the 2025 sequel, Gonzo’s Quest II: Return to El Dorado (high volatility, 96.06%).
Mega Fortune: The Jackpot Classic
Mega Fortune (January 2009) is a 5×3, 25-line slot with scatter wins, free spins, wilds and a Jackpot Bonus Game that leads to three progressive jackpots. The official RTP is 96.60%; Evolution’s page shows a typo (“96.%”). Outside the jackpots, the game descriptions on both official sites give a maximum base-game win of 2,162x. The Mega Fortune NetEnt legend rests on its jackpot record, covered below. Mega Fortune Dreams (2014, 96.40%) is the follow-up.
Dead or Alive NetEnt Slots: 1, 2 and 3
The Dead or Alive NetEnt slot (2009) is the studio’s original high-volatility Wild West game, on 9 paylines, with a 96.82% RTP and an 8,600x max win; Evolution also lists a 98.08% version. Dead or Alive 2 (April 2019) keeps 9 lines and adds a choice of three free-spins modes. Both official sites say it can pay up to 100,000x the bet, which Evolution ties to the Train Heist mode.
Dead or Alive 3: Wanted (26 March 2026) moves to a 5×5 grid, with Wanted Wilds that carry random multipliers from x2 to x100, a 96.03% RTP and a 66,666x max win. All three suit players who accept long losing runs in exchange for rare big hits.
Blood Suckers NetEnt Slot: The 98% RTP Classic
Blood Suckers is the slot most players know for its RTP: both official sites list 98.00%, with low volatility. It’s a 5×3, 25-line vampire slot, and SlotCatalog describes free spins with a 3x multiplier and a pick-a-coffin bonus. The studio hub dates it to November 2009 and lists a 900x max win. SlotCatalog has also seen it at a lower RTP (96.01%) at one casino, so check before you play. Blood Suckers 2 (96.94%) followed in 2017.
Twin Spin, Fruit Shop and Jack and the Beanstalk
The Twin Spin NetEnt slot (December 2013) has 243 ways to win, and its Twin Reel feature links adjacent reels so they show identical symbols; the link can grow to all five reels. The studio hub lists 96.55% and 1,000x, while Evolution shows 96.06%, which is exactly why you should check the RTP in the game. Twin Spin Megaways and Twin Spin XXXtreme are higher-volatility spin-offs.
The Fruit Shop NetEnt slot (November 2011) is the studio’s take on the fruit machine: a 15-line video slot with free spins at low-to-mid volatility, 96.71% RTP and an 800x max win. It now has a Megaways version, a Christmas edition and Fruit Shop Grand Re-Opening (July 2026, 5,000x).
The Jack and the Beanstalk NetEnt slot (December 2011) is a 20-line fairy-tale game with Walking Wilds and a key-collecting free-spins feature, 96.28% RTP and a 7,100x max win. The sequel, Jack and the Beanstalk 2: Goat Enterprise, arrived on 17 September 2026 with 96.32% and up to 20,000x.
Mega Joker and Divine Fortune
The Mega Joker NetEnt slot is a three-reel classic with one of the highest headline RTPs in the catalogue: 99.00% on the studio hub. Evolution’s page lists two figures, 85.28% and 99.00%, and SlotCatalog explains that the top return is tied to the maximum bet and the Supermeter mode. Stakes run from 1.00 to 10. Read the in-game help before you play it for its RTP.
Divine Fortune (January 2017) is a Greek-myth slot with Falling Wilds respins, up to 12 free spins and a three-tier Jackpot Bonus Game, at 96.59% and mid volatility. Divine Fortune Megaways won Product Launch of the Year at the 2021 Global Gaming Awards, and the series continued with Divine Fortune Black (2025) and Divine Fortune Gold (April 2026).

New NetEnt Slots 2026
The studio has released 13 new slots so far in 2026, more than one a month, with at least two more scheduled. Release dates below are from each game’s page on the studio hub; most titles also had an exclusive early-access period first, usually a week. Volatility is from Evolution’s games site.
| Slot | Release date | RTP | Volatility | Max win | Bet range |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| MONOPOLY Money Line | 15 January 2026 | 96.18% | High | 10,078x | 0.10–40 |
| Rabid Randy: Gone Fishing | 17 February 2026 | 96.03% | Mid | 2,591x | 0.20–120 |
| Godbreaker | 12 March 2026 | 96.16% | Mid | 5,468x | 0.20–80 |

| Spice | 23 July 2026 | 96.09% | High | 15,000x | 0.20–20 |
| Judgemental | 13 August 2026 | 96.20% | High | 15,000x | 0.20–20 |

| Jack and the Beanstalk 2: Goat Enterprise | 17 September 2026 | 96.32% | High | 20,000x | 0.20–20 |
| Demon Beats | 15 October 2026 | 96.08% | High | 10,000x | 0.20–50 |
Two trends stand out. Most of the new games NetEnt releases are high volatility, and almost all offer a feature buy-in, which Evolution notes may not be available in every jurisdiction. Several are sequels or reworks of older hits, and Dead or Alive 3: Wanted lists the highest max win of the year, at 66,666x.
Coming next: Nunchucks is due on 29 October 2026 (96.21%, up to 12,000x) and Gonzo Goes Mental on 26 November 2026, according to the studio hub. Release dates can move, so treat them as provisional.
NetEnt Branded Slots: Jumanji, Vikings, Narcos and More
Alongside its original games, the studio has built slots on films, TV series, bands and board games. Licensing deals can end, so a branded slot listed today may not be at your casino tomorrow. Release dates and max wins are from the studio hub where it has a page for the game; otherwise the year is Evolution’s label. RTP and volatility are from Evolution’s games site, which names NetEnt as provider for each.
| Slot | Based on | Released | RTP | Volatility | Max win |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jumanji | Film | 2018 | 96.33% | Low/Mid | 500x |
| Vikings | TV series | 2018 | 96.05% | Mid/High | 5,600x |
| Narcos | TV series | 2019 | 96.23% | Mid | 1,000x |

| Gordon Ramsay Hell's Kitchen | TV show | 2021 | 96.07% | Low | 1,000x (Evolution) |

| Jimi Hendrix | Musician | 2016 | 96.90% | Low | 400x |
| Motörhead | Band | 2016 | 96.98% | Mid | 600x |
| Guns N' Roses | Band | 2016 | 96.98% / 98.02% / 99.05% | Mid | Not listed |
| Twister | Party game | 2024 | 96.04% | High | 4,300x |
NetEnt RTP: Official Figures and RTP Settings
RTP (return to player) is the share of all money staked that a slot is designed to pay back over a very large number of spins. It says nothing about your next session. On NetEnt RTP, the studio is fairly open: the studio hub lists RTP and max win, and usually hit frequency, on its game pages, and Evolution’s games site shows RTP and volatility.
There’s a catch. On Evolution’s site, 23 of the 203 slot pages show more than one RTP, with no explanation. Some examples:
| Slot | RTPs shown |
|---|---|
| Superstars | 96.08% / 94.06% / 92.01% |
| Guns N' Roses | 96.98% / 98.02% / 99.05% |
| Funk Master | 96.04% / 92.06% |
| Busters' Bones | 94.04% / 96.07% |
| Hotline 2 | 94.51% / 96.05% |
| Fruit Shop Megaways | 95.06% / 96.06% |
| Twin Spin XXXtreme | 96.00% / 94.00% |
| Dead or Alive | 96.82% / 98.08% |
| Mega Joker | 85.28% / 99.00% |
Several figures usually mean one of two things. Either the game exists in more than one RTP version and the casino chooses which one to run, or the return changes with how you play: Mega Joker’s top RTP is tied to the maximum bet, and SlotCatalog says Starburst XXXtreme’s higher figure applies when you pay for its feature. Guns N’ Roses even shows a top figure of 99.05%, without saying when it applies.
Evolution publishes no RTP policy for the studio. SlotCatalog reports casino-selectable settings for classics such as Dead or Alive and Twin Spin, and lists Starburst as low as 90.05% at some casinos, although Evolution’s page shows a single figure for it. We could not confirm those lower settings on an official page.
The two official sites also disagree with each other in places:
| Slot | Figure | The studio hub | Evolution |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starburst | RTP | 96.08% | 96.09% |
| Twin Spin | RTP | 96.55% | 96.06% |
| Hall of Gods | RTP / release | 95.70% / 2010 | 95.30% / 2013 |
| Codex of Fortune | RTP | 98.00% | 96.00% |
| Divine Fortune Black | RTP | 96.26% | 96.08% |
| Twin Spin XXXtreme | RTP | 96.06% | 96.00% / 94.00% |
| Mega Joker | RTP / release | 99.00% / 2008 | 85.28% / 99.00% / 2013 |
| Gonzo's Quest | Max win / release | 2,200x listed / 2010 | 2,500x in description / 2011 |
| Dead or Alive 2 | Max win | 1,600x listed, up to 100,000x in description | Up to 100,000x in description |
| Mega Fortune | Max win | 1,700x listed, 2,162x base game in description | 2,162x base game in description |
| Aloha! Cluster Pays | Max win | 700x listed | Up to 10,000x in description |
| Blood Suckers / Jack and the Beanstalk | Release | 2009 / 2011 | 2013 / 2013 |
The only NetEnt RTP that counts is the one shown in the game at your casino.
How to Check a Slot's RTP at Your Casino
-
Step 1
Open the slot at the casino where you plan to play. You don't need to place a bet.
-
Step 2
Open the game menu or the info (i) button and go to the game rules or paytable pages.
-
Step 3
Find the line that states the theoretical return to player (RTP). Some games show a separate figure for a feature buy.
-
Step 4
Compare it with the official figure. If the casino's number is lower, it is running a lower RTP setting.
-
Step 5
If it is lower, try the same game at another licensed casino or pick a different title. For Mega Joker, read how the RTP changes with your bet and mode.
Highest Max Win: Which NetEnt Slots Have the Biggest Potential?
Among the games we checked, these list the biggest top wins. A max win is a rare ceiling, reached on a tiny share of spins if at all, and high-max-win games are almost always high volatility.
| Slot | Max win | Released | Volatility |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dead or Alive 2 | Up to 100,000x | April 2019 | High |
| Dead or Alive 3: Wanted | 66,666x | March 2026 | High |
| Aftermath | 25,000x | September 2026 | High |
| Divine Fortune Black | 20,000x | May 2025 | High |
| Jack and the Beanstalk 2: Goat Enterprise | 20,000x | September 2026 | High |
| Starburst Galaxy | 17,288x | November 2024 | Mid/High |
| Starburst XXXtreme | 16,800x | July 2021 | High |
| Spice | 15,000x | July 2026 | High |
| Judgemental | 15,000x | August 2026 | High |
Why do sites disagree on max wins? The studio hub shows a listed maximum in each game’s stat box, but some game descriptions state a higher theoretical figure: Dead or Alive 2’s stat box says 1,600x, while both official descriptions say up to 100,000x.
Third-party databases add their own numbers too, such as 200,000x for Starburst XXXtreme and 111,111x for Dead or Alive 2. We use the official description where it gives a figure and the listed maximum otherwise, but the paytable in the game you open is the final word. We checked about 60 of the studio’s games, not all 203.
Which NetEnt Slot Suits Which Player?
Most “NetEnt best slots” lists look alike, but the games suit very different players. Use this as a starting point, then try the demo first:
| If you want… | Try | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Simple rules and a low budget | Starburst, Fruit Shop | Low or low-to-mid volatility; minimum bets of 0.10 and 0.15 |
| A high official RTP | Blood Suckers, Mega Joker | 98.00% and 99.00% (Mega Joker depends on your bet) |
| A jackpot chance | Mega Fortune, Divine Fortune | Progressive jackpots on top of the base game |
| Big-win potential | Dead or Alive 2, Dead or Alive 3: Wanted | High volatility; up to 100,000x and 66,666x |
| Features and multipliers | Gonzo's Quest, Jack and the Beanstalk | Avalanche multipliers, Walking Wilds |
| Cluster pays or Megaways | Aloha! Cluster Pays, Divine Fortune Megaways | Different ways to win from classic paylines |
| A famous theme | Jumanji, Vikings, Narcos | Branded slots based on a film and TV series |
The studio publishes RTP and max win, and usually hit frequency, on its game pages at netent.com. Use those numbers to check what your casino actually runs.
NetEnt Jackpots and the Mega Fortune Record
Evolution’s and the studio’s sites list several progressive jackpot slots. Evolution notes that jackpot features may not be available in every jurisdiction.
| Slot | Released | RTP | Jackpot structure |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mega Fortune | January 2009 | 96.60% | Jackpot Bonus Game with three progressive jackpots |
| Mega Fortune Dreams | 2014 (Evolution) | 96.40% | Wheel of Fortune bonus game with three progressive jackpots |
| Hall of Gods | November 2010 | 95.70% | Bonus game with Mini, Midi and Mega jackpots, described as progressive by the studio hub |
| Divine Fortune | January 2017 | 96.59% | Jackpot Bonus Game with three jackpots, the top one progressive |
| Arabian Nights | 2013 (Evolution) | 95.62% | Progressive jackpot slot |
| Mega Joker | October 2008 | 99.00% at top bet | Three-reel slot with a progressive jackpot |
Mega Fortune holds a famous record. On 20 January 2013 a Finnish player won about €17.8m on it at Paf.com, beating the previous online slot record by more than €6m, as InterGame Online reported two days later. The jackpot was pooled, meaning several casinos fed the same prize. We could not confirm whether it is still the largest online slot win.
Progressive jackpots are funded from a small part of each stake, so jackpot slots often pay back less in the base game than similar non-jackpot slots. Treat any jackpot as a long shot, never as a plan.
NetEnt Free Spins: Casino Offers vs In-Game Features
Search for NetEnt free spins and you’ll find two different things.
Casino free spins. Casinos often give free spins on popular titles such as Starburst as part of welcome or loyalty offers. Before you claim free spins NetEnt games are tied to, check:
- Wagering: how many times you must bet any winnings before you can withdraw them.
- Maximum cashout: many offers cap what free-spin winnings can turn into.
- Games and stake: which slot the spins work on and the value of each spin.
- Expiry and eligibility: deadlines, excluded countries and excluded payment methods.
We don’t list specific offers here because they change often. Our Bonuses & Free Spins guide explains how to compare them.
In-game free spins. Most of the studio’s slots have a free spins bonus round triggered by scatters: Gonzo’s Quest’s Free Falls (10 spins, multipliers up to 15x), the three modes in Dead or Alive 2, and up to 12 free spins in Divine Fortune. Starburst is built around expanding-wild respins instead. Many newer titles let you buy the feature where local rules allow it.
NetEnt Demo Games and Free NetEnt Slots
You can play NetEnt free slots in demo (free play) mode in our game reviews: every game review on FAQsino includes a free demo where the studio allows it. Evolution says demo availability depends on your jurisdiction and that the games need no download. Demos use play money: wins have no cash value and can’t be withdrawn, as Evolution’s own Gonzo’s Quest page points out.
In Great Britain, UKGC-licensed casinos must verify your age before you can play free versions of their games, so expect to register first. A NetEnt demo is a good way to learn a game’s features and feel its volatility, but it can’t tell you which RTP setting a casino runs for real money.
How to Try a Slot Demo Safely
-
Step 1
Open the slot's review in the Casino Games section on FAQsino.
-
Step 2
Confirm that you are 18 or over when asked. In Great Britain, a licensed casino will ask you to register and verify your age before a demo.
-
Step 3
Open the info or rules screen and note the RTP, so you can compare it with the real-money version later.
-
Step 4
Play for a few minutes to see how often it pays and how big the wins feel. Demo credits are play money and cannot be withdrawn.
-
Step 5
If a demo isn't available in your country, don't deposit just to test the game.
NetEnt Mobile Casino Play
Evolution says the games run on desktop, smartphone and tablet with no download needed. At a NetEnt mobile casino you get the same mobile slots, RTPs and features as on desktop, in the browser or the casino’s app. The studio was named Mobile Gaming Software Supplier of the Year at the 2021 EGR B2B Awards.
NetEnt Licences, Testing and Safety
The studio has no separate section on Evolution’s licences page: its games are supplied under the Evolution group’s licences. Evolution’s brand page names two of them:
| Regulator | Licence holder | Licence |
|---|---|---|
| UK Gambling Commission | Evolution Malta Holding Limited | Account 41655 (remote gambling software and game host) |
| Malta Gaming Authority | Evolution Gaming Malta Limited | MGA/CRP/187/2010/01 (B2B critical gaming supply) |
| Other markets | Various Evolution group companies | Group licences in markets such as Sweden, Denmark, Spain, Gibraltar, the Isle of Man, Ontario and several US states |
The group licence list is for Evolution as a whole, not for this brand specifically. Evolution’s 2025 annual report also lists subsidiaries carrying the studio’s name in Alderney, Gibraltar, the Isle of Man, Malta and Ukraine. For testing, the studio hub names iTech Labs and Technical Services Bureau for platform and game testing and GLI for on-site security inspection. That’s the company’s own statement; we haven’t seen the certificates. More on these regulators in our UK Gambling Commission and Malta Gaming Authority reviews.
One group matter is worth knowing. In July 2026 Evolution Malta Holding Limited, the UK licence holder, agreed a £4.75m settlement with the UK Gambling Commission after a licence review found five Evolution games on six websites run by two unlicensed operators and accessible in Great Britain. The UKGC’s public statement doesn’t name the games and doesn’t mention NetEnt. Evolution said the review found no broader pattern.
For safer play, the studio hub says its games support casino-set loss, bet and session limits, plus an in-game reality check that’s on by default in most jurisdictions. Self-exclusion is handled by your casino. Gambling is for adults only (18+, 21+ in some places); our Responsible Gambling page lists tools and free help.
How to Recognise a NetEnt Game
Games NetEnt makes are easy to spot once you know the signs:
- The provider label: casino lobbies and Evolution’s game pages name the provider. Red Tiger, Big Time Gaming and Nolimit City games belong to the same owner but are separate brands.
- Signature mechanics: Avalanche cascades, paylines that pay both ways, and expanding wilds with respins. Evolution credits the studio with introducing these, a company claim rather than an independent finding.
- Series names: Starburst, Gonzo, Dead or Alive, Divine Fortune and Fruit Shop families, plus XXXtreme and Megaways versions.
- Published numbers: the studio hub’s game pages show RTP, max win and grid size, and usually hit frequency.
How to Choose NetEnt Casinos
Operators can add the studio’s games alongside the group’s other brands through a single integration with Evolution’s platform, so many licensed casinos carry NetEnt slots online. Choosing between them takes a few checks, and the best NetEnt casinos for you depend on where you live. We don’t hand-pick a “best NetEnt casino”: the Casinos with NetEnt Games list at the bottom of this page is ranked by FAQsino Trust Score and adjusted to the country you visit from.
- Licence: the casino should be licensed where you live, for example by the UKGC in Great Britain. Our gambling authorities hub explains each regulator.
- RTP setting: open NetEnt casino games such as Starburst or Blood Suckers and compare the RTP with the official figure. NetEnt casinos can run different settings.
- Payouts: clear withdrawal times, limits and identity checks in the terms.
- Safer-gambling tools: deposit limits, time-outs, reality checks and self-exclusion.
When you compare top NetEnt slots sites, remember that the same game can run at a different RTP from one casino to the next. If you play from Great Britain, stick to UKGC-licensed sites: UK players are better protected there.
NetEnt vs Pragmatic Play, Play'n GO and Games Global
How the studio compares with the other big slot studios we review:
| Feature | NetEnt | Pragmatic Play | Play'n GO | Games Global |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Best-known slots | Starburst, Gonzo's Quest, Mega Fortune | Gates of Olympus, Sweet Bonanza, Big Bass Bonanza | Book of Dead, Reactoonz | Mega Moolah |
| Catalogue claim | About 200 slots on Evolution's site (our count) | Over 500 slots (company) | More than 400 games (company) | 1,300+ proprietary games (company) |
| Ownership | Evolution, listed in Stockholm | Privately owned | Not stated on its site | Filed for a US IPO in 2024, then halted it |
| Recent pace | About 1–2 slots a month in 2026 | Several launches a month (own site) | Several launches a month (own site) | Over 20 titles in October 2026 (trade press) |
It releases fewer games than the busiest studios, but its back catalogue and its per-game data are its strengths. Read our Pragmatic Play, Play’n GO and Games Global reviews for the full picture, or browse all slot studios, the full game developers hub and our slot guides.
What We Could Not Verify
Being clear about gaps matters as much as the facts. We could not confirm:
- A total game count including table games. Evolution publishes none.
- Why 23 games show more than one RTP, and which setting any given casino runs.
- Original release years for some classics, where the studio hub and Evolution disagree, such as Blood Suckers (2009 or 2013) and Mega Joker (2008 or 2013).
- Which max win is right where the official stat box and description differ.
- Whether the 2013 Mega Fortune win is still the largest online slot win.
- Regulator-register entries for the group’s subsidiaries that carry the studio’s name. We relied on Evolution’s own licence statements and the UKGC register for the UK licence holder.
- The outcome of Candle Lake Limited’s 2026 mandatory offer for Evolution shares, which could change the studio’s ultimate owner.
- Whether feature buy-ins are offered in your country.
Our Verdict on NetEnt
The studio remains one of the strongest names in online slots. Starburst, Gonzo’s Quest, Blood Suckers, Mega Fortune and Dead or Alive 2 still hold up, the official game pages publish more data than most players will need, and the games are supplied under Evolution’s UK and Malta licences.
The weak points are the RTP versions some games come in, official figures that don’t always match between the studio hub and Evolution’s site, and a recent slate that leans on sequels. None of that is a reason to avoid its slots; it’s a reason to check the RTP in the game before you play.
If you want classic, well-understood slots with clear numbers, this is a good place to start. Set a budget first and treat every spin as entertainment, not income.
