Revolut is a London-based financial app that puts a current account, a debit card and multi-currency balances on your phone. At online casinos it rarely has its own cashier button. You pay with the card, by bank transfer from your account details or, very occasionally, with Revolut Pay. This guide explains each route, what happens when you withdraw, and how the app’s gambling block can switch casino payments off.
Short answer: it is a regulated, well-protected way to fund a casino account. In the UK it has operated as a full bank since March 2026, although some customers are still on the older e-money account. Card deposits are usually instant and carry no fee in your own currency. Payouts depend on the casino and normally go back to your card or arrive by bank transfer. If gambling worries you, the free gambling block stops card payments to gambling merchants straight away.
We checked the facts on 19 October 2026 against the company’s Help Centre, terms, fee pages and regulator registers, plus the news and review sources named below.
Revolut at a glance (checked 19 October 2026)
What Is Revolut and How Does It Work?
What is Revolut in plain terms? An app-first account. You open it on your phone and get UK account details (sort code and account number) or an IBAN, plus a debit card and free virtual cards. The Revolut app lets you hold 39 currencies, add your card to Apple Pay or Google Pay and send money to other users instantly.
How does Revolut work when you pay a merchant? It depends on the route:
- Card payment: the merchant sees an ordinary debit card transaction tagged with a merchant category code (MCC). Gambling merchants use gambling codes, which is what the gambling block and the weekly cap rely on.
- Revolut Pay: you tap the button at checkout and approve in the app. Technically it is an Instant Transfer from your account to the merchant, so no card details change hands.
- Bank transfer: money leaves your account details like any other bank payment, by Faster Payments in the UK or SEPA in euros.
Revolut cards come in several plan tiers (Standard, Plus, Premium, Metal and Ultra), but every one behaves the same way at a casino cashier. Revolut Mobile is a separate SIM and eSIM product with no role in casino payments.
Is Revolut a Bank? Its Banking Licence, Entity by Entity
Is it a bank? Yes in the UK and the EEA, with one catch. In the UK, the Prudential Regulation Authority lifted the restrictions on Revolut Bank UK Ltd and the bank launched on 11 March 2026, according to the company’s announcement. Customers are moving across in stages, though, and many UK accounts still sit with Revolut Ltd, an e-money institution. E-money is safeguarded, not covered by the FSCS.
To check yours, tap your profile icon, then Account details, and read the entity name. “Revolut Bank UK Ltd” means a bank account. “Revolut Ltd” means you are still on e-money.
| Entity | What it is | Register / licence | Money protection |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revolut Bank UK Ltd | UK bank, authorised by the PRA, regulated by the FCA and PRA | FRN 981170; authorised 25 July 2024, restrictions lifted 11 March 2026 | FSCS up to £120,000 per person |
| Revolut Ltd | UK e-money institution and registered cryptoasset firm | FRN 900562; e-money licence since 11 May 2018 | Safeguarded, not FSCS-covered |
| Revolut Bank UAB | EEA bank in Lithuania, supervised by the Bank of Lithuania and the ECB | Authorisation code LB002119; banking licence since 13 December 2021 | Lithuanian deposit insurance up to €100,000 |
| Revolut Trading Ltd | UK investment services | FRN 933846 (FCA Register) | Investments are not deposits |
We checked both UK firms on the FCA Register and the Lithuanian bank on the Bank of Lithuania’s list. The company says it operates as a bank in 30+ countries, and Irish customers are served through the Lithuanian bank’s Irish branch. Crypto, shares and commodities sit outside the bank’s FSCS cover.
Is Revolut Safe?
On regulation and protection, yes. Logins use a passcode or biometrics, online card payments can need approval in the app, and you can freeze a card or pay with single-use virtual cards. In the UK, its terms give victims of authorised push payment scams a route to reimbursement of up to £85,000, with a £100 excess.
The record isn’t spotless. We cover the fines and the 2022 data breach in the track record section. A frequent and serious customer complaint is an unexpected account restriction, which matters if a casino payout is sitting in the account when it happens.
Revolut Casino Payments: Card, Bank Transfer or Revolut Pay
Search for a Revolut casino online and you’ll find plenty of lists, yet we found no casino running a branded wallet for it the way many run PayPal or Skrill. Paying an online casino with Revolut almost always takes one of three routes, and they behave differently for blocks, limits and payouts.
| Route | How it works | Gambling block applies? | Usual payout route |
|---|---|---|---|
| Debit card (physical or virtual) | Pick the casino's Visa/Mastercard option, approve in the app | Yes, it covers card payments | Back to the same card, if the casino supports card payouts |
| Bank transfer or open banking | Pay from your account details, directly or via a pay-by-bank service | No, bank transfers are excluded | Bank transfer to your account details |
| Revolut Pay | Tap the button, approve in the app (an Instant Transfer) | Not stated by the company | Casino-dependent; not verified at licensed casinos |
| Apple Pay or Google Pay (permanent card added) | Pick the wallet at the cashier where the casino offers it | Not stated by the company; check before relying on it | Casino-dependent; usually the card or a bank transfer |
The card is what most players mean by a casino that accepts Revolut. Pay-by-bank services such as Trustly move money straight from a bank account, but whether your account appears in a casino’s bank list depends on the service and your country.
A Revolut Pay casino is the rare case. The company’s Buyer Protection policy excludes “gambling or games of chance”, and its Business Terms list gambling among activities a business account may not be used for. Some review sites report seeing that button at a few betting sites, but we could not confirm one at a licensed casino, so check the cashier terms before you rely on any casino Revolut Pay option.
How to Make a Revolut Casino Deposit by Card
-
Step 1
Choose a casino licensed where you live and complete its identity checks first, so your first withdrawal is not held up later.
-
Step 2
Open the cashier, choose the Visa or Mastercard debit card option and enter your amount. Use a card in your own name, because casinos match card names to accounts.
-
Step 3
Copy the card number, expiry date and CVV from the app. Prefer a permanent virtual or physical card: a single-use card gets new details after one use or 24 hours, so details a casino has saved stop working, and it cannot be added to Apple Pay or Google Pay.
-
Step 4
Approve the payment in the app when asked (a 3-D Secure-style check). If it fails, the transaction status in the app shows the reason for the decline.
-
Step 5
Check your casino balance and the transaction in the app. A card payment in your account's base currency carries no fee from the card issuer.
Revolut Casino Withdrawal: What Really Happens
A card deposit lands instantly wherever cards are accepted, but a Revolut casino withdrawal depends on what the casino’s payment processor supports. Many casinos apply a “return to source” rule for anti-money-laundering reasons, so winnings usually go back to the method you deposited with.
In practice there are two outcomes:
- Card payout: the casino credits your card. Not every casino can do this, and we found no published timing from the company for gambling payouts to its cards.
- Bank transfer: the casino pays your sort code and account number, or your IBAN. Timing depends on the casino’s bank and processing schedule.
The slow part is almost never the app. It is the casino’s pending period, its verification checks (KYC) and its own processing days. Review sites report anything from a couple of hours to several days, so read the casino’s withdrawal page, and our fast withdrawal casinos guide, before you deposit.
Revolut Casino Withdrawal Habits That Save Time
Get verified at the casino before your first deposit, and keep your own account fully verified too, so an unanswered document request doesn’t hold up winnings when they arrive.
Revolut Gambling Block, Limits and Safer Gambling
The app’s gambling block is a free switch that stops card payments identified as gambling: online casinos, bookmakers, sports betting apps and your physical card in a betting shop. The official gambling block page sets out the rules:
- Off by default. New accounts start with it disabled.
- On immediately. Once active, the company says it can’t be bypassed.
- Up to 48 hours to lift. A change of heart mid-session can’t undo it on the spot.
- Card payments only. It doesn’t affect bank transfers or payments made through third-party apps.
- Based on merchant codes. If a gambling company uses a different MCC, the block can’t catch it, and the company isn’t liable for card payments that get through.
How to Turn On the Revolut Gambling Block
-
Step 1
Open the app and tap your profile icon in the top-left corner.
-
Step 2
Go to Security, then Payments.
-
Step 3
Switch Gambling block on and tap Yes to confirm. It takes effect immediately.
-
Step 4
Because the block covers cards only, also set deposit limits at the casino. UK players can also register with GAMSTOP, a free service that blocks access to gambling websites and apps.
Other Controls That Cap Gambling Spend
- Weekly gambling card cap (UK): betting and gambling card spend is limited to £25,000 or equivalent per rolling 7 days, per the UK card payments help page.
- Card limits: set a monthly spending limit on each card, or freeze a card with one tap.
- Under-18s: accounts for 16 to 17-year-olds can’t be used for card purchases at gambling establishments.
- Support: the company lists gambling addiction as a vulnerable circumstance and offers a confidential form to share your situation.
- No buyer protection: Revolut Pay Buyer Protection excludes gambling, so a disputed casino payment isn’t covered by it.
Our responsible gambling guide covers casino limits, self-exclusion and free help. Gambling is for adults aged 18 and over.
The gambling block switches on at once; switching it off can take up to 48 hours. If you wonder whether you need it, turn it on first and decide later.
— FAQsino Payments DeskRevolut Exchange Rate, Fees and Limits for Casino Players
For a casino deposit in the same currency as your balance, the card payment costs nothing. Costs appear when currencies differ. The company uses its own variable exchange rate and, where possible, shows the total cost before you exchange. If a card payment needs a real-time conversion, such as a euro casino deposit from a pound balance, the breakdown only appears in the app afterwards. Its fees and help pages (checked 19 October 2026) also set a monthly fair-usage allowance and an extra weekend fee.
| Plan | Monthly exchange with no fair-usage fee | Fee above the allowance | Weekend extra (Fri 17:00 to Sun 18:00 ET) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | £1,000 | 1% | 1% |
| Plus | £3,000 | 0.5% | 0.5% |
| Premium, Metal, Ultra | No limit | None | None |
Worked example: on the Standard plan you exchange £1,200 into euros on a Tuesday to fund a euro casino account. The first £1,000 falls within the allowance and the other £200 costs 1%, so about £2. Do the same on a Saturday and the 1% weekend fee applies to the whole exchange as well, adding £12, so about £14 in all.
This assumes no other exchanges in the same rolling month. The allowance counts currency, crypto and commodity exchanges together, including automatic conversions when you pay by card in another currency.
The simple fix is to open your casino account in your own currency. Other costs worth knowing: ATM withdrawals on Standard are free up to 5 withdrawals or £200 a rolling month, then 2% (minimum £1), and transfers in your base currency to another bank in your country are free. The casino may also charge its own fees, so check its banking page and the current terms in the app.
Why Your Revolut Casino Deposit Was Declined
Open the payment in the app’s transaction list: its Status shows the reason. If the payment is missing, the company says the merchant’s restrictions or technical problems stopped it, and a form lets it contact the merchant.
| Cause | What you notice | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Gambling block is on | Every card payment to gambling merchants fails | It is working as intended; lifting it takes up to 48 hours |
| UK weekly gambling card cap reached | Declines after heavy spending | The £25,000 per 7 days cap resets on a rolling basis |
| 16 to 17 account | All gambling card payments fail | Gambling sites are for adults only |
| National regulator list (some European countries) | Payments to an unlicensed site fail | Use a locally licensed site; contact support if a licensed one was blocked |
| App approval missed | The payment times out | Approve the request in the app and retry |
| Card frozen or card limit hit | Declines at every merchant | Unfreeze the card or raise its limit |
| Casino refuses the card | The error comes from the casino | Review sites report some casinos block certain cards; pick another listed method |
| Single-use card reused or expired | A second payment, or one after 24 hours, fails | Use a permanent virtual or physical card for casinos |
How to Choose Casino Sites That Accept Revolut
Lists of “top Revolut casino sites” and rankings of Revolut online casino sites tell you little, because taking a debit card is the norm, not a mark of quality. An online casino that accepts Revolut deposits can hold a strong licence or a weak one. Use this checklist instead:
- Licence where you live: check the regulator’s own register, not just the casino footer.
- Deposits and withdrawals: confirm the cashier pays out to cards or bank accounts, not just takes money in.
- Fees, limits and payout times: look at the minimum deposit, the minimum withdrawal, any fees and the pending period.
- Bonus terms: some casinos exclude certain payment methods, so read the wagering and eligibility terms (our bonuses guide helps).
- Safer gambling tools: deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion.
Instead of a hand-picked top Revolut online casino list, the automatic Top 5 Casinos Accepting Revolut panel directly below this guide does that filtering for you. It ranks casinos by FAQsino Trust Score and adapts to your country. For the full picture, browse our casino reviews.
| Country | Who licenses online casinos | Where to check |
|---|---|---|
| Great Britain | UK Gambling Commission | Public register: search by company, website or app name. Licensed sites must show their licence and link to it. |
| Sweden | Spelinspektionen (Swedish Gambling Authority) | Licence register, listing the web addresses of licensed online operators |
| Denmark | Spillemyndigheden (Danish Gambling Authority) | List of licence holders allowed to offer games in Denmark |
| Germany | GGL and the state authorities | Official whitelist of permitted providers; the GGL says online offers not on it are illegal |
| Malta-licensed operators | Malta Gaming Authority | Licensee register: search by name, status, website or gaming service. Check your own country's rules too. |
Our UKGC, Swedish Gambling Authority, Spillemyndigheden and GGL reviews explain how each regime protects players.
Do Bonuses Work When You Pay by Revolut?
Bonus terms belong to the casino, not the card issuer. According to one review site, exclusions usually name e-wallets such as Skrill and Neteller, while card deposits normally stay eligible, but read each offer. Casinos licensed in Great Britain have had to cap bonus wagering at 10 times since 19 January 2026, the UK Gambling Commission says.
Curaçao and MGA Casinos: What the Licence Changes
Searches such as “casino Curaçao Revolut” and “MGA casino Revolut” usually come from players looking beyond their home market. The company is a payment provider, not a gambling regulator, so a card payment going through tells you nothing about player protection.
The licence decides which rules the operator follows and where you can complain. A Malta Gaming Authority licence is an EU-based regime with a public register. A Curaçao licence comes from a different framework, so read our Curaçao regulator review before you trust one.
Also note that some European countries require the company, as a payment provider, to block transactions with illegal gambling operators, using lists from the national regulator. If your country licenses casinos, a locally licensed site gives you the strongest protection; UK players are better protected on UKGC-licensed sites.
UK Players and the Credit Card Ban
Since 14 April 2020, gambling businesses licensed in Great Britain have been barred from taking credit card payments. Its account cards are debit cards, so the ban doesn’t stop them. The UK Help Centre also lists credit cards among the cards it doesn’t accept for adding money (checked 19 October 2026), so you can’t load the account from a credit card either.
Casino med Revolut: Nordic Players
“Casino med Revolut” simply means a casino that takes the card. In Sweden and Denmark it is used like any other debit card at a licensed casino’s cashier, and both countries license operators nationally, so use the Swedish or Danish register in the table above. Accounts can hold SEK and DKK, which avoids exchange fees at a casino that uses your currency.
Revolut vs Trustly, Apple Pay, Google Pay and MuchBetter
Of the payment methods we review, these five solve different problems. This one is an account and a card at once, so it overlaps with all of them.
| Method | What it is | Where casino payouts usually go | Gambling-specific control |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revolut | Bank or e-money account with debit cards | Back to the card or by bank transfer (casino-dependent) | Gambling block (cards) and £25,000 weekly card cap (UK) |
| Trustly | Pay-by-bank service | Your bank account | Your bank's own controls |
| Apple Pay | Phone wallet for your cards | Usually your card or bank | The underlying card's controls |
| Google Pay | Phone wallet for your cards | Usually your card or bank | The underlying card's controls |
| MuchBetter | E-wallet with its own balance | The MuchBetter wallet | Separate gaming balance |
Its cards work inside Apple Pay and Google Pay, so those aren’t either-or choices. MuchBetter keeps gambling money in a separate wallet; Pockets and card limits do a similar job here.
Account Essentials: Open, Verify, Contact, Close
The admin tasks people search for most, in brief; the Help Centre has the full detail.
Open a Revolut Account and Get Fully Verified
Download the official app, confirm your phone number by SMS, create a passcode, enter your details and pick a @revtag. Finally, verify your identity with a photo of your passport or driving licence and a selfie. You must be 18 or over, or 16 to 17 in the UK with restrictions.
The company doesn’t use the label “fully verified Revolut account”, but that is what people mean: identity checks complete and no restrictions. If it needs more documents, it asks by email, push notification and an in-app banner with a deadline, and the account may be restricted if you miss it. Only original documents work, not copies or screenshots.
Login and Customer Service
Revolut login happens in the app with your passcode or biometrics, plus an SMS code when needed; on desktop you approve the login on your phone. To contact Revolut customer service, use the in-app chat (profile icon, Chats, Support), open 24/7 in 100+ languages, which also offers a call option. Email [email protected] only if you can’t log in. A lost or stolen card can be frozen through the automated line on +44 (0)203 322 8352.
How to Transfer Money from Revolut to Your Bank Account
Tap Payments, then +, New payment and Bank. Enter the account holder’s name with the sort code and account number (or IBAN), add the amount and send. Local transfers in your base currency are free. Pound payments to UK banks usually arrive within seconds via Faster Payments, according to the company’s blog, although its terms allow until the next business day.
Revolut Cash Deposit: Discontinued
The UK Help Centre says cash deposits were discontinued from 13 February 2026. You can still add money by bank transfer, debit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
How to Close a Revolut Account
Go to your profile icon, then Settings and Close account. First bring every balance, Pocket and currency account to zero, cancel subscriptions, downgrade to Standard, close any investment account and clear pending transactions or chargebacks.
Revolut Crypto: The Facts
In the UK, crypto services come from the e-money entity (FRN 900562), registered with the FCA as a cryptoasset firm under the money laundering rules since 26 September 2022. Crypto you hold isn’t safeguarded like your cash and isn’t covered by the FSCS, and crypto exchanges count towards the monthly fair-usage allowance. This is not financial advice: crypto is high-risk and its value can fall sharply.
Track Record: Licences, Fines and Reputation
These are the dated milestones and penalties we could confirm.
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| 2015 | Nik Storonsky launches the company in London with co-founder Vlad Yatsenko |
| 11 May 2018 | Revolut Ltd authorised by the FCA as an e-money institution |
| September 2022 | FCA cryptoasset registration; a social-engineering attack exposes data of about 50,000 customers |
| 25 July 2024 | Revolut Bank UK Ltd authorised with restrictions (mobilisation) |
| April 2025 | Bank of Lithuania fines the Lithuanian bank €3.5m over anti-money-laundering controls |
| 13 February 2026 | UK cash deposits discontinued |
| 11 March 2026 | Restrictions lifted; the UK bank launches |
| 2 April 2026 | Italy's competition authority (AGCM) fines group companies €11.5m; the company says it will appeal |
After the 2022 breach the company said no funds were taken and that full card numbers, PINs and passwords weren’t accessed. The Lithuanian fine followed an inspection that found weaknesses in monitoring business relationships and transactions. The Italian fine covered investment marketing, account restrictions and IBAN disclosure. We found no FCA or PRA fine in the sources we checked.
On Trustpilot it scored 4.7 out of 5 (“Excellent”) from about 475,000 reviews when we checked on 19 October 2026. Reviewers praise the app and fast transfers; the recurring complaints are frozen or restricted accounts, unexpected card declines and chat support that is hard to reach. Treat that score as a sentiment signal, not a safety rating.
What We Could Not Verify
- Which casinos accept or pay out to the card today. Cashiers change, so check before you deposit.
- Payout times from casinos to its cards; we found no official figure.
- Whether the gambling block stops Revolut Pay, or whether any licensed casino offers it. The help page describes card payments only.
- The weekly gambling cap outside the UK; we read the UK page only.
Our Take: Is Revolut Good for Casino Payments?
For most players, yes. It is a regulated bank in the UK and the EEA, card deposits are instant and free in your own currency, and the gambling block is a genuinely useful control. The weak spots are withdrawals, which depend entirely on the casino, the UK accounts still on e-money, and a record of fines and account-restriction complaints. Check your entity in the app, keep the casino in your own currency and use the block if you need it.
