Trustly is a Swedish pay-by-bank service that moves money from your bank account to a merchant, such as an online casino or a betting site, and back again for payouts. You pick your bank at the cashier, approve the payment in your own banking app, and the deposit lands. There is no wallet to top up and no card involved.
Short answer: it is one of the most convenient ways to fund a casino account in the UK, the Nordics and much of Europe, and casinos that offer it for withdrawals pay winnings back to your bank, usually quickly. It is regulated in Sweden and the UK. The trade-offs are no card-style chargeback, a SEK 130 million anti-money-laundering fine in 2022, and a gambling block of its own that works only in Finland.
Facts were checked on 19 October 2026 against the company’s own pages, the Swedish regulator or named sources. This page is for adults aged 18 and over.
Key facts at a glance (checked 19 October 2026)
What Is Trustly? Pay by Bank in Plain English
If you ask “what is Trustly payment”, the simplest answer is a bank transfer that you approve in seconds. The company calls it Pay by Bank: an open-banking, account-to-account service, so the money comes from your current account rather than a card or a stored balance. Casino payouts go back to a bank account too.
The firm is neither the merchant nor your bank. It sits between them, starts the payment once you approve it at your bank, and confirms it to the merchant. In the Swedish regulator’s 2022 decision, the company describes its deposit service as payment initiation combined with a money transfer.
That design explains most of what you notice in Trustly transactions:
- No sign-up. You need no separate account, password or app, though the casino will usually want its own account.
- Your bank does the security. You approve every payment with your bank’s own login, app or eID (strong customer authentication under PSD2).
- Statements look different. The line often reads “Trustly Group AB” rather than the casino’s name.
Trustly payments are used for shopping, travel and bills as well, but gambling is central: Finansinspektionen found in 2022 that it was the firm’s largest business area, with more than half of transaction volume in the period examined.
Is There a Trustly Card or Login?
People often search for a Trustly card. We could not find one: the service is not a card and, on its European site and help centre, issues none, prepaid or otherwise. Payments come from an eligible personal bank account with enough money in it.
There is no consumer Trustly login either. You start every payment at the casino and sign in at your own bank. At Pay N Play casinos, “log in” means choosing your bank and authenticating there. In March 2025 the company announced pilots in Finland of an optional biometric login for returning Pay N Play players.
Treat any request for a separate sign-in or your bank password as a red flag, and never pay to bank details copied from an earlier payment. Always start from the merchant’s cashier.
Who Runs Trustly and Who Regulates It
The company was founded in 2008 in Stockholm. Its parent, Trustly Holding AB (publ), publishes the group results, and Nordic Capital has been an investor since 2018, and the group is privately held.
Two regulated companies matter to players. Trustly Group AB (corporate ID 556754-8655) is an authorised Swedish payment institution supervised by Finansinspektionen (FI) under the Payment Services Act and PSD2. It serves the EU and EEA, and its name is the one most European users see on bank statements. It is a payment institution, not a bank, which matters for safety.
What Is Trustly UK Limited?
Trustly UK Limited is the group’s British arm, which provides the service to UK users. According to the company’s UK terms (version 2.0, published 24 February 2026), it is an Authorised Payment Institution regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority under the Payment Services Regulations 2017, with FCA reference number 1005703. It provides payment initiation and account information services.
Its company number is 08841430. We could not open the live FCA register entry, so the reference comes from the company’s own pages; you can check it on the FCA register yourself.

Is Trustly Safe? An Honest Answer
For the payment itself, the design is sound. The company says it never sees or stores your bank password, encrypts the data it sends, cannot reach your account beyond the payment you approve, and monitors payments in real time. Those are its own statements, but the core protection, approving each payment inside your bank app, is real and visible.
Regulation is genuine too. What you should not assume matters just as much:
- No deposit insurance at the payment firm. Its consumer pages describe no safeguarding or deposit-insurance scheme, and its UK terms say it holds no users’ money, acting as an agent for merchants.
- No chargeback button. The company cannot cancel, reverse or refund a completed payment. Refunds are the merchant’s decision, so a casino dispute stays between you and the casino.
- Your casino balance is the casino’s matter. Once a deposit is credited, the casino’s licence governs your funds, and UK-licensed casinos must state in their terms how protected those funds are if the business fails.
Customer reviews are mixed. On 19 October 2026 Trustpilot showed a TrustScore of 2.8 out of 5 from 3,436 reviews, 57% of them one-star, with complaints about payments not reaching merchants, delays and refunds. Many probably involve merchant disputes, but that is our reading, not a measured fact.
The 2022 Finansinspektionen Fine
On 22 February 2022 Finansinspektionen gave the Swedish entity a warning and an administrative fine of SEK 130 million for anti-money-laundering failings. The central finding was that it had not treated the end users paying through it as customers, leaving many outside its risk assessment, due diligence and monitoring.
The investigation focused on the gambling business. FI said it had considered withdrawing the authorisation but judged a warning and fine sufficient, and ordered end users to be treated as customers by 30 November 2022.
To be precise about scope, the decision concerned anti-money-laundering controls; it did not find that the company paid unlicensed gambling operators. We found no later FI sanction in the sources we checked.
You approve every pay-by-bank deposit yourself, which makes it hard for anyone to take money without your say-so and just as hard to claw back. Choose the casino carefully before you approve.
— FAQsino Payments DeskHow Trustly Casinos Handle Deposits and Withdrawals
Trustly casinos are simply operators that have added the method to their cashier. Each one decides which services to offer: deposits only, deposits and withdrawals, or the full Pay N Play flow. That is why Trustly casino sites can feel so different, and why casinos that accept Trustly for deposits do not automatically pay out with it.
How to Make a Trustly Deposit at a Casino
-
Step 1
Open the cashier at a licensed casino and choose Trustly or Pay by Bank as your deposit method.
-
Step 2
Enter the amount and pick your bank and account from the list. If you have paid this way before, your details may be pre-filled.
-
Step 3
Approve the payment in your bank app or with your bank's eID, checking the amount and payee first.
-
Step 4
Return to the casino and wait for its confirmation. Deposits usually show quickly, often within seconds according to the company.
-
Step 5
If you continue past a Potential Transfer Delays message, the payment can take up to 48 hours (excluding weekends and bank holidays) to arrive.
How to Withdraw Casino Winnings to Your Bank
-
Step 1
Make sure your casino account is fully verified; unfinished identity (KYC) checks commonly delay payouts. UK-licensed casinos generally may not make ID a condition of withdrawal if they could have asked earlier, though anti-money-laundering checks can still apply.
-
Step 2
Open the withdrawal page and choose the same pay-by-bank option. If it is not listed, that casino does not offer it for payouts and you will need another method.
-
Step 3
Request the amount and confirm the bank account. The company says it checks the account holder's name and account details before paying out.
-
Step 4
Wait for the casino to approve the request. Once released, the money is sent as an instant or standard bank transfer, depending on your bank.
-
Step 5
If nothing arrives within 72 hours, ask the casino to confirm the payout, then contact the company's support with proof of payment.
Deposits vs Withdrawals: A Reality Check
A Trustly deposit at a casino is close to instant because you push the money yourself. A casino with Trustly withdrawal support adds steps you do not control: a pending period, possible identity checks and the operator’s approval queue. Only then does the transfer begin.
The company says its payouts generally arrive within 72 hours; in the Czech Republic, Norway and Romania they are standard transfers taking up to 3 working days. Its marketing claims more than 95% of payouts in 30 European markets are instant. OLBG, a UK review site, reports that the UK casinos it lists typically pay the same day once approved, while BetITOn and Top End Sports timed full withdrawals at about 17 to 38 hours and 44 to 70 hours (small samples).
In short, the transfer is usually fast and the casino is usually the bottleneck. For quick cash-outs, compare processing times in our fast withdrawal casinos guide.
| Stage | Controlled by | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Pending period | Casino | Set in the casino terms; varies by site |
| Identity and payment checks | Casino | Faster if your account is already verified |
| Approval | Casino | OLBG reports same day at its UK sites; two other reviewers timed whole withdrawals at 17 to 70 hours |
| Bank transfer | Payment firm and your bank | Instant or standard; generally within 72 hours |
| Czech Republic, Norway, Romania | Your bank | Standard transfer, up to 3 working days |
Trustly Fees and Limits for Casino Players
The company says it charges consumers no fee for its payment service (help centre, checked 19 October 2026), with two exceptions. A currency-conversion fee may apply when you pay in a currency other than your bank account’s, or receive a payout in another currency; it is shown in the payment flow before you approve. Your bank or the casino may also add its own charges.
Most UK casinos in OLBG’s survey charge nothing for this method, but one charges £1.50 on withdrawals under £30. Casino fees come from the operator, not the payment method, so read the cashier terms.
Limits come from your bank, the casino and the payment service itself, and can differ per payment; support staff cannot raise them. For the UK, the company publishes an undated PDF of bank-set daily limits, apparently uploaded in 2025, running from £10,000 to £1,000,000 across the banks it lists; the main ones are in the table below. Several banks start with a low default (£3,000 at the NatWest group) that you raise in your banking app, and new-payee limits can apply.
The company’s gaming page mentions 13 supported currencies without naming them; its European developer documentation lists nine it can process: CZK, DKK, EUR, GBP, HUF, NOK, PLN, RON and SEK. A sterling account at a sterling casino avoids conversion. Check current terms in your banking app and at the casino cashier before large payments.
| Item | Who sets it | What we found |
|---|---|---|
| Deposit fee | Payment firm | None for consumers |
| Payout fee | Payment firm | None; some casinos charge their own |
| Currency conversion | Payment firm | May apply; amount shown before you approve |
| Bank charges | Your bank | Possible; check your account terms |
| Minimum deposit and withdrawal | Casino | Set per site; reviewers report about £5 to £10 minimum deposits (Top End Sports, BetITOn) and OLBG £10 to £20 minimum withdrawals at the UK sites each lists |
| Maximum per payment | Bank, casino and payment firm | No single figure; UK bank limits vary widely |
| Bank | Daily limit, web and mobile | Note on the sheet |
|---|---|---|
| Lloyds, Halifax, Bank of Scotland | £25,000 each | Daily cumulative limit for retail customers £25,000 |
| NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland, Ulster Bank | £20,000 each | Set to £3,000 as standard until you raise it under "Manage my limits" in the app |
| Barclays | £50,000 | New-payee limit £2,000 |
| HSBC | £25,000 | |
| Santander | £25,000 | Overall payment limit £100,000 |
| Nationwide | £25,000 | Daily cumulative limit £100,000 |
| TSB | £25,000 | |
| First Direct | £49,999 | |
| Monzo | £10,000 | Contact Monzo to raise it |
| Starling | £1,000,000 | Personal account limits apply; ask in the app to raise |
Worked example. You deposit £50 from a sterling current account into a sterling casino account. The payment firm charges nothing and no conversion is needed, so £50 arrives, less any bank or casino fee. Later you withdraw £25 at a site charging £1.50 on withdrawals under £30, and receive £23.50; withdraw £30 or more and the fee disappears.
Pay by Bank and the UK Credit Card Ban
Since 14 April 2020, UKGC-licensed operators may not accept credit card payments for gambling, and must be satisfied that e-wallet money did not come from a credit card. A pay-by-bank payment comes from a bank account, with no stored card. The company publishes nothing on credit-type accounts, so we make no claim either way. Use a current account and money you can afford to lose.
No Account Casino Trustly: How Pay N Play Works
Pay N Play is the company’s registered product that merges sign-up, identity check and first deposit into one step. You log into your bank through the casino, the identity data your bank holds is passed on, the casino account is created from it, and the deposit completes. The company says players are identified and verified as they deposit.
So a “no account casino” still has an account, and it is not anonymous gambling: your identity and age come from your bank, and the licensed casino stays responsible for its checks. The company lists Pay N Play as live in Sweden, Finland, Estonia, the Netherlands and the UK, with around 250 brands live, according to the company.
The UK is the exception in practice. UK Gambling Commission rules require identity verification before you gamble, so the play-first format is not standard in Great Britain, and most UK sites use a normal registration before taking the deposit by bank. Our UK Gambling Commission review explains those checks.
Trustly Casinon: Notes for Swedish Players
Sweden is the company’s home market, and Swedish searchers call these sites “Trustly casinon”. It works the same way there, with approval by your bank’s eID (usually BankID).
The check that matters is the licence. Spelinspektionen’s rules, including the national self-exclusion register Spelpaus, protect you only at casinos it has licensed. Our Swedish Gambling Authority review shows how to check a licence before you deposit.
How to Choose Trustly Casinos: 7 Essential Checks
There is no official list of online casinos that use Trustly or of other Trustly gambling sites; the company publishes no directory. Whether you want a top Trustly online casino or one of the new Trustly casinos, run these seven checks on any online casino with Trustly first:
- A licence where you live. UK players need a UKGC licence, Swedish players a Spelinspektionen one.
- Both directions. Make sure a casino that accepts Trustly for deposits also lists it for withdrawals.
- Your bank appears. Bank availability shows at the bank-selection step and depends on the merchant.
- Fees, limits and payout times. Check withdrawal fees, minimums and processing times.
- Bonus terms. There is no Trustly casino bonus as such; offers come from casinos. OLBG notes this method usually qualifies, unlike some e-wallets, but read each offer’s payment rules. UK-licensed offers have had a 10x cap on bonus wagering since 19 January 2026. Our bonuses and free spins guide explains wagering.
- Safer-gambling tools. Deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion should be easy to find.
- Matching names. Register under your bank account name, because the payout name is checked.
The Top 5 Casinos Accepting Trustly panel directly below this guide does the shortlisting for you. It ranks online casinos with Trustly by FAQsino Trust Score and adjusts to the country you visit from, so you only see gambling sites that accept Trustly where you are. Trustly Betting Sites and Bookmakers
Trustly betting sites and Trustly bookmakers work exactly like casinos: the same bank approval for deposits and the same payout route. Before choosing among betting sites that use Trustly or bookmakers that accept Trustly, check the licence, whether free-bet offers exclude any payment methods, and whether payouts also go by bank: a Trustly bookmaker that takes deposits this way may pay winnings by another route.
We do not hand-pick the best Trustly betting sites. Many betting sites with Trustly also run a casino, so the ranked panel below and our reviews cover sports betting with Trustly as well.
Gambling Blocks and Spending Controls
The company runs its own gambling block, but only in Finland. It stops payments through the service to casinos, betting sites and other gambling merchants from a bank account you have used with it before, though not Finnish bank buttons (Verkkopankki).
To switch it on, you contact support, prove you own the account (a recent payment works) and confirm the consent email within 24 hours, or the request is cancelled and your data deleted. It stays active until the company confirms removal on request; no cooling-off period is stated.
Outside Finland the company points users to national regulator and self-exclusion services instead. It offers no equivalent block in the UK.
That makes your bank the next line of defence, with a catch. Monzo said in 2021 that many gambling blocks rely on card merchant category codes, which do not exist for open-banking payments, so it piloted extending its block to them. We have not confirmed any bank’s current position, so ask yours whether its block stops pay-by-bank payments. UK players can add GAMSTOP, and licensed casinos offer deposit limits and time-outs.
Gambling should stay entertainment for adults aged 18 and over. If it stops being fun, our responsible gambling page lists free, confidential support.
Trustly vs Apple Pay, Google Pay, Revolut and MuchBetter
Of the five methods we reviewed this month, this is the only purely bank-to-merchant one, with no card, stored balance or app of its own. Its edge is the return trip: casinos that support it for payouts send winnings straight to your bank.
Apple Pay and Google Pay are card wallets that most guides we checked describe as deposit methods, with payouts going to your card or bank. MuchBetter is an e-wallet with its own verified account, and casinos pay into the wallet. Revolut is an app-based account with cards. See also our bank transfer hub and the full list of payment methods.
| Method | How you pay | Where casino payouts go | Separate account |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trustly | Straight from your bank account | Your bank account, if the casino offers it | No |
| Apple Pay | Card stored in a phone wallet | Usually your card or bank | Apple device and a card |
| Google Pay | Card stored in a phone wallet | Usually your card or bank | Google account and a card |
| MuchBetter | E-wallet balance | The MuchBetter wallet | Yes, verified wallet |
| Revolut | Revolut card or account | Varies by casino | Yes, Revolut account |
Why Your Trustly Deposit Failed at a Casino
Start with the merchant for deposits, withdrawals or refunds, as the company advises, and go to its support if money seems stuck in between.
| Problem | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Your bank is not listed | Bank not supported for this merchant or payment | Use another account or another method |
| Potential Transfer Delays message | No instant transfers at your bank, or the merchant hit a limit | Continue and allow up to 48 hours (excluding weekends) |
| Bank refused the payment | Daily or new-payee limit, or a gambling block | Check limits and blocks in your banking app |
| Money left your account, casino not credited | Delayed or failed payment | Allow 2 banking days, then contact the casino and support with proof |
| Failed payment, money taken | Payment failed after leaving your account | Returned to your account within 5 banking days |
| Withdrawal missing after 72 hours | Casino not yet processed, or bank delay | Ask the casino to confirm, then contact support |
| Unfamiliar payee name on statement | A merchant payment made through the service | Use the company's transaction lookup tool |
The European support team works seven days a week and usually replies within 24 hours; live chat runs Tuesday to Friday, 10:00 to 15:00 CET. For suspected fraud, contact your bank first. UK users can escalate unresolved complaints about the payment itself to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
For a dispute with a UK-licensed casino, complain to the casino first; it has eight weeks to resolve it, after which you can take the matter to a free ADR provider. The Gambling Commission does not resolve individual complaints.
Our Take for Casino Players
As a casino payment method, it is hard to beat for convenience where it works. Deposits are near-instant, there is nothing to sign up for and no fee from the company, and casinos that support it for payouts return winnings straight to your bank.
The caveats are real. The 2022 fine shows the regulator found serious gaps in its money-laundering controls. There is no chargeback route, limits sit with your bank, and only Finnish users get the company’s own gambling block. Use the Trustly payment method at licensed casinos, set a bank block or deposit limit if you need one, and it does its job well.
